Reporting a Meteor
What to do if you observe unusual night sky phenomena
If you are lucky enough to witness a very bright meteor (fireball), details you provide can help us determine their frequency and origin. Very bright fireballs can be seen during daylight as well as at night and may be associated with additional phenomena such as dazzling colors, smoky trails and sonic booms.
Some of the information we need includes:
- Your Location
- The direction you first saw it and the direction it appeared to be heading
- The altitude (angle) above the horizon it travelled
- The time, date and duration of the event
- A full description of the observation
