Space Room: Using props, the Space Room time will be spent exploring either orbits, day and night, phases of the Moon, how we get the different seasons in the year or Matariki and the Maori New Year. Questions are encouraged during this interactive learning time.
Interactive: Take your pick from:
- Rockets – Watch water and air-powered rockets launch out the back of Stardome. If the weather is bad, the kids will launch balloon rockets inside.
- Telescopes – A hands-on exploration of the workings of telescopes using mini-scopes in the Space Room.
Time to Explore: Your group will enjoy the interactive elements of our Space Gallery & Exhibits area. Take a look at historic moments in space made from toy bricks, send the ball down the gravity well or turn into an astronaut for a photo for home.
Planetarium : In the immersive, 360-degree planetarium, your group will watch the planetarium show Tycho to the Moon (Y0-3) or The Accidental Astronauts (Y1-4). Visit the education show library for a full list of our education shows.
Learning outcomes: Learn by experiment and observation. Explore the world by asking ‘what does this do?’ and ‘what happens when?’ Understanding the natural and physical world.*
