It has been said that the first person to set foot on Mars is alive today. That person could be sitting in your classroom! A school trip to Stardome encourages curious minds and inspires exploration.
We’ve put together some school trip packages based on subject matter but our education sessions are customisable to your learning objectives so don’t hesitate to ask if you want something different.
Stardome is proud to be a recognised LEOTC provider delivering education experiences that link to the New Zealand Curriculum.
Part 1
20 minutes in the Space room – an educator-led curriculum-based session focusing on your chosen topic.
Part 2
15 minutes of play based learning in the Space Gallery & Exhibits using a tablet loaded with a fun, fact-finding quiz.
Part 3
40 minutes in the planetarium. In the planetarium your group will see a feature show and if time permits, an educator-led night sky presentation.
The duration of your trip will be 90 minutes. Choose from 9am, 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1pm or 2pm time slots.
School trips total price – Child/adult/teacher $5 each. One adult free for every eight students. Minimum charge $175.00 applies to groups of 35 or fewer.
If you are a low decile school please ask about our reduced price visit of $2 per child/adult/teacher. Please note this is only available for a minimum booking of 60 students per session.

Space Room: Using props, the Space Room time will be spent exploring either orbits, day and night, phases of the Moon, how we get the different seasons in the year or Matariki and the Maori New Year. Questions are encouraged during this interactive learning time.
Pipehenge: Upon request, before entering Stardome, your session can begin outside at the Pipehenge. Often mistaken for a jungle gym, this is a fantastic tool to visualise the movement of the Sun and stars throughout the seasons.
Space Gallery & Exhibits: In teams, students will complete a fun fact-finding quiz by exploring the Space Gallery.
Planetarium: In the immersive, 360-degree planetarium, students will watch a seasonal night sky presentation and a planetarium show reinforcing the key learnings from the Space Room session. Choose from Tilt (Y3-7), The Accidental Astronauts (Y1-4), or Tycho to the Moon (Y0-3). Visit the education show library for a full list of our education shows.

Learning outcomes: Students will understand scientific thought processes by using their own reasoning and observations and will understand the fundamentals of astronomical systems.
