Auckland Art Gallery is a cultural leader in New Zealand. Its purpose is to be a place for art and a catalyst for ideas. With multiple exhibition spaces spreading across three levels in an award-winning building, it is the largest and most inspiring visual arts experience in the country.
The gallery’s collection and loan collections currently number over 16,000 artworks. Together, they include major holding of New Zealand historic, modern and contemporary art. Haere mai! Auckland Museum is the cultural and spiritual touchstone for the many races that inhabit this beautiful land, and the first stop for anyone wishing to gain an insight into New Zealand and its people.
Renowned for its unique collection of Māori and Pacific treasures, Auckland Museum is also a war memorial for the Auckland province and holds one of New Zealand’s top three heritage libraries.
Housed in one of the country’s finest heritage buildings, the Museum tells the story of New Zealand as a nation; from award-winning natural history exhibits to galleries which investigate New Zealand’s cultural origins.
Scars on the Heart, the Museum’s war memorial exhibition, tells the story of New Zealand at war, while He Taonga Māori – the Museum’s Māori treasures gallery, displays over 2,000 priceless Māori artefacts, including rare carvings and the last great Māori war canoe carved from a giant Totara tree.
Auckland Museum is the only venue in Auckland where visitors can experience a Māori cultural performance daily.

MOTAT
MOTAT is New Zealand’s largest transport and technology museum of its kind and offers a fun and exciting learning experience for visitors of all ages.

New Zealand Maritime Museum
New Zealand Maritime Museum Hui Te Ananui A Tangaroa celebrates the country’s bond with the sea and its stories of discovery, exploration, immigration and sailing.
Suitable for all ages, the Maritime Museum provides an enjoyable and unique discovery experience with the goal of uniting people with the sea through the collection, public programming and exhibitions. The museum also has a fleet of working heritage vessels, which are available daily for public sailings on the Waitemata Harbour.
On display within the galleries are collection pieces of national, regional, local and general maritime interest in a way that stimulates interest and preserves the items for the benefit of the people of New Zealand.
