In 1961, cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin boarded the Vostok 1 spacecraft and made history as the first person in space. In 108 minutes, Yuri orbited Earth before landing by parachute in a field, much to the surprise of an unsuspecting farmer and her daughter. Gagarin later recalled, "When they saw me in my space suit and the parachute dragging alongside as I walked, they started to back away in fear. I told them, don't be afraid, I am a Soviet citizen like you, who has descended from space and I must find a telephone to call Moscow!"
Falling on the anniversary of Yuri Gargarin’s historic flight to become the first human in space in 1961, visitors can relive the excitement of the Space Race in our show Dawn of the Space Age.
Bookings essential. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early for shows. Late entry into the planetarium is not possible once the show has started.
