Primary Science Week is nearly here! Check out the latest Daytime and Night-Time Activities and get started on the Dark Sky Survey.

The daytime activities help students learn about how the Sun moves in the sky, both during each day and over the whole year. These lead to the main project of measuring the distance all around the Earth!

Until the observing period in mid-June, the Google Earth Activity shows how to find the circumference of the Earth without using the Sun.

The Dark Sky Survey aims to promote an appreciation of students’ local night sky, with help from parents and teachers. This is for school children up and down the country, which will also help build a picture of the extent and nature of light pollution in New Zealand.
