Prepare to be amazed as your guide takes you on an unforgettable tour of our universe! A planetarium is a dome-screen movie theatre. Incredible digital projections of stars and planets come to life on the giant domed screen above you with beautiful clarity. The relaxing, reclining seats give you an uninterrupted view of the stars as they are projected on the screen above. See the Universe recreated in front of your eyes from the comfort of your reclining seat inside the planetarium theatre, day or night, rain or shine.
Our planetarium shows run every night of the week except Mondays, and change regularly so there’s always something new to see. Choose from a huge range of topics including the Night Sky, Astronauts, Black Holes and much more. The planetarium shows are indoors so you can enjoy an astronomy or space themed show whatever the weather. Evening shows all include courtyard telescope viewing (weather permitting).
An observatory is a location where the stars are observed. They can be ground or space-based and contain equipment to make observations on the light emitted from stars. Stardome has two telescopes in domes, the Harry Winstone telescope which is used for research purposes, and the Zeiss telescope which is primarily used for public viewing but is occasionally used for research as well.
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS OF ENTRY: Late entry to shows is not permitted after the planetarium doors have closed. The planetarium environment is not suitable for children under the age of three. Please ask a staff member or refer to the Stardome Show Guide for age recommendations for each show. Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult at all times, in accordance with section 10B of the Summary Offences Act 1981. We accept no liability for any loss or damage to any car in the carpark. It is recommended that valuable items are hidden from view or removed from the vehicle. Please be aware that the lower carpark in front of the playground is locked at 7.00pm. The use of cellphones and recording devices is not permitted in the planetarium.
